PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL [2003]

Prepare To Be Blown Out Of The Water

Governor Swann: Commodore Norrington is going to be very pleased with this.
Do pass my compliments on to your master.
Will: I shall.
A craftsman is always pleased to hear his work is appreciated.

Norrington: Well, well, Jack Sparrow, isn't it?
Jack: Captain Jack Sparrow, if you please, sir.
Norrington: I don't see your ship, Captain.
Jack: I'm in the market, as it were.
Mullroy, to Murtogg: Told you he was telling the truth.
[to Norrington] These are his, Sir.
Norrington, pick up the gun: No additional shot nor powder.
[pick up the compass] A compass that doesn't point North.
[to the sword] And I half expected it to be made of wood.
You are without doubt the worst pirate I've ever heard of.
Jack: But you have heard of me.

Elizabeth: Pirate or not, this man saved my life.
Norrington: One good deed is not enough to redeem a man a lifetime of wickedness.
Jack: Though it seems enough to condemn him.
Norrington: Indeed.

Elizabeth: You're despicable.
Jack: Sticks and stones, love.
I saved your life, you save mine, we're square.
Gentlemen, milady, you will always remember this as the day you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow.

Jack, in fight, about the swords: Who makes all these?
Will: I do. And I practiced with them 3 hours a day.
Jack: You need to find yourself a girl, mate.
[they fight]
Jack: Or perhaps the reason you practice 3 hours a day is that you found one
and are otherwise incapable of woofing said trumpet.
You're not a eunuch, are you?
Will: I practice 3 hours a day so when I met a pirate, I can kill it!

I trust you will remember this is the day that Captain Jack Sparrow almost escaped.
~Commodore Norrington

Jack: It's the Pearl.
Pirate #1: The Black Pearl?
I've heard stories. She's been preying on ships and settlements for near 10 years.
Never leaves any survivors.
Jack: No survivors? Then where do the stories come from, I wonder?

[as Pintel and Ragetti rush to the cupboard]
Elizabeth: Parley. I invoke the right of parley.
According to the Code of the Brethren set down by the pirates Morgan and Bartholomew,
you have to take me to your captain.
Pintel: I know the code.
Elizabeth: If an adversary demands parley, you can do them no harm until the parley is complete.
Ragetti: To the blazes of the code.
Pintel: She wants to be taken to the captain. And she'll go without a fuss.
We must honor the code.

Elizabeth: You have to take me to shore. According to the code...
Barbossa: First, your return to shore was not part of our negotiation nor our agreement.
So I must do nothing.
Secondly, you must be a pirate for The Pirate's Code to apply, and you're not.
And thirdly, The Code is more what you'd call guidelines than actual rules.
Welcome aboard The Black Pearl, Miss Turner.

Will: That's not good enough!
Norrington: Mr. Turner, you are not a military man, you are not a sailor.
You are a blacksmith.
And this is not the moment for rash actions.
Do not make the mistake of thinking you are the only man here who cares for Elizabeth.

Will: You, Sparrow, you are familiar with that ship, The Black Pearl.
Jack: I've heard of it.
Will: Where does it make berth?
Jack: Where does it make berth? Have you not heard the stories?
Captain Barbossa and his crew of miscreants sail from the dreaded Isla De Muerta.
It's an island that cannot be found, except by those who already know where it is.
Will: The ship's real enough. It's anchorage must be a real place. Where is it?
Jack: Why ask me?
Will: Because you're a pirate.
Jack: And you want to turn pirate yourself, is that it?
Will: Never.

Gillette: This ship cannot be crewed by 2 men. You'll never make it out of the bay.
Jack: Son, I'm Captain Jack Sparrow. Savvy?

Officer: Run out the guns!
[to Norrington] We are to fire on our own ship, Sir?
Norrington: I'd rather see her at the bottom of the ocean than in the hands of a pirate.

Will: You knew my father.
Jack: I knew him. Probably one of the few who knew his as William Turner.
Everyone else called him Bootstrap or Bootstrap Bill.
Will: Bootstrap?
Jack: Good man, good pirate. I swear you look just like him.
Will: It's not true. He was a merchant sailor. A good respectable man who obeyed the law.
Jack: He was a bloody pirate. A scallywag.

The only rules that really matter are these. What a man can do and what a man can't do.
For instance, you can accept that your father was a pirate and a good man, or you can't.
Pirate is in your blood, so you'll have to square with that someday.
Now me for example. I can let you drown, but I can't bring this ship into Tortuga all by me onesy, savvy?
So, can you sail under the command of a pirate? Or can you not?
~Captain Jack Sparrow

Gibbs: What makes you think Barbossa will give up his ship to you?
Jack: Let's just say it's a matter of leverage.
[point to Will with his head]
Gibbs: The kid?
Jack: That is the child of Bootstrap Bill Turner. His only child, savvy?
Gibbs: Is he, now?
"Leverage", says you.
"I think I feel a change in the wind," says I.

Barbossa: You don't know what this is, do you?
Elizabeth: It's a pirate medallion.
Barbossa: This is Aztec gold.
One of 882 identical pieces they delivered in a stone chest to Cortes himself.
Blood money paid to stem the slaughter, he wreaked upon them with his armies.
But the greed of Cortes was insatiable.
So the heathen gods placed upon the gold a terrible curse.
Any mortal that removes but a single piece from that stone chest shall be punished for eternity.
Elizabeth: I hardly believe in ghost stories anymore, Captain Barbossa.
Barbossa: Aye. That's exactly what I thought when we were first told the tale.
Buried on an island of dead what cannot be found, except for those who know where it is.
Find it, we did. There be the chest. Inside be the gold. And we took them all.
We spent them and traded them and frittered them away on drink and food and pleasurable company.
The more we gave them away, the more we came to realize,
the drink would not satisfy, food turned to ash in our mouths,
and all the pleasurable company in the world could not slake our lust.
We are cursed men, Miss Turner.
Compelled by greed, we were, but now we are consumed by it.
There is one way we can end our curse.
All the scattered pieces of the Aztec gold must be restored and the blood repaid.
Thanks to ye, we have the final piece.
Elizabeth: And the blood to be repaid?
Barbossa: That's why there's no sense to be killin' you... yet.

Look, the moonlight shows us for what we really are.
We are not among the living, and so we cannot die. But neither are we dead.
For too long I've been parched and unable to quench it.
Too long I've been starving to death and haven't died.
I feel nothing.
Not the wind on my face nor the spray of the sea, nor the warmth of a woman's flesh.
You best start believing in ghost stories, Miss Turner, you're in one!
~Captain Barbossa

Will: How can we sail to an island that nobody can find, with a compass that doesn't work?
Gibbs: Aye, the compass doesn't point north, but we're not trying to find north, are we?

Will: What code is Gibbs to keep to if the worst should happen?
Jack: Pirate's Code. Any man who falls behind, is left behind.
Will: No heroes amongst thieves, eh.

Jack: For having such a bleak outlook on pirates, you're well on your way to becoming one.
Sprung a man from jail, commandeered a ship of the fleet,
sailed with a buccaneer crew out of Tortuga, and you're completely obsessed with treasure.
Will: That's not true. I am not obsessed with treasure.
Jack: Not all treasure is silver and gold, mate.

[Jack been surrounded by the pirates]
Jack: Palulay.
Palu-li-la-la-lulu.
Parlili. Parsnip, parsley, partner, partner...
Ragetti: Parley?
Jack: That's the one! Parley!
Pintel: Parley? Damn to the depths whatever man that thought up 'parley'!
Jack: That would be the French.

Barbossa: How the blazes did you get off that island?
Jack: When you marooned me on that godforsaken spit of land, you forgot one very important thing, mate.
I'm Captain Jack Sparrow.

[see Elizabeth burns the rum's crates]
Jack: No! Not good! Stop! Not good!
What are you doing? You burned all the food, the shade! The rum!
Elizabeth: Yes, the rum is gone.
Jack: Why is the rum gone?
Elizabeth: One, because it is a vile drink that turns even the most respectable men into scoundrels.
Two, that signal is over a thousand feet high. The entire Royal Navy is out looking for me.
Do you think there is even the slightest chance they won't see it?
Jack: But why is the rum gone?

Elizabeth: But we've got to save Will.
Governor Swann: No. You're safe now. We will return to Port Royal, not go gallivanting after pirates!
Elizabeth: Then we condemn him to death.
Governor Swann: The boy's fate is regrettable, but so was his decision to engage in piracy.
Elizabeth: To rescue me. To prevent anything from happening to me.

Will: You knew William Turner?
Pintel: Ol' Bootstrap Bill. We knew him.
Never sat well with Bootstrap, what we did to Jack Sparrow. The mutiny and all.
He said it wasn't right with the code.
That's why he sent off a piece of the treasure to you.
He said we deserved to be cursed. And remain cursed.
Ragetti: Stupid blighter.
Gibbs: Good man.
Pintel: Well, as you can imagine, that didn't sit too well with the captain.
Ragetti: That didn't sit to well with the captain at all.
Pintel: So, what the captain did, he strapped a cannon to Bootsrap's bootsraps.
And last we saw of Ol' Bill Turner, he was sinking to the crushing, black oblivion of Davy Jones' locker.
'Course it was only after that we learned we needed his blood to lift the curse.
Ragetti: That's what you call ironic.

Barbossa: I must admit, Jack, I thought I had you figured.
But it turns out you're a hard man to predict.
Jack: Me? I'm dishonest.
And a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest.
Honestly, it's the honest ones you want to watch for,
because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly stupid.

Barbossa: So what now, Jack Sparrow?
Are we to be 2 immortals locked in an epic battle until judgement day and trumpets sound?
Jack: Or you could surrender.

Jacoby, rush to Will: I'm gonna teach you the meaning of pain.
Elizabeth appears suddenly: You like pain? [hit Jacoby in the head] Try wearing a corset.

[Jack shot the gun to Barbossa]
Barbossa, to Jack: 10 years you carry that pistol, and now you waste your shot.
Will: He didn't waste it.
[Will drop the Cortes' coins with his blood all over them]

Norrington: I thought we might endure some ill-conceived escape attempt.
But not from you.
Governor Swann: On our return to Port Royal, I granted you clemency.
And this is how you thank me? By throwing in your lot with him? He's a pirate.
Will: And a good man.
If  all I have achieved is the hangman will earn 2 pairs of boots instead of one, so be it.
My conscience will be clear.
Norrington: You forget your place, Turner.
Will: It's right here between you and Jack.
Elizabeth: As is mine.
Norrington: So this is where your heart truly lies, then?
Elizabeth: It is.

Perhaps on the rare occasion pursuing the right course demands an act of piracy,
piracy itself can be the right course?
~Governor Swann

Jack: Thought you were supposed to keep to the code.
Gibbs: We figured they were more actual guidelines.

THE MATRIX RELOADED [2003]

Reload Before The Revolution Begins

Some of you believe as I believe, some of you do not.
Those of you that do know we are nearing the end of our struggle.
The prophecy will be fulfilled soon.
But before it can be, The Oracle must be consulted.
~Morpheus

Neo: What is it between them?
Trinity: Morpheus and Lock?
[Neo nods] Niobe.
Neo: Captain Niobe?
Trinity: She used to be with Morpheus. Now she's with Lock.
Neo: What happened?
Trinity: Morpheus went to The Oracle.
After that, everything changed.
Neo: Yeah, she can do that.

Kid: The more I think about it, the more I think it's meant to be. It's fate.
You're the reason I'm here, Neo.
Neo: I told you, you found me. I didn't find you.
Kid: I know, but you got me out. You saved me.
Neo: You saved yourself.

Lock: I don't care about oracles or prophecies or messiahs!
I care about one thing, stopping that army from destroying this city.
And to do that, I need soldiers to obey my orders.
Morpheus: With all due respect, commander, there is only one way to save our city.
Lock: How?
Morpheus: Neo.
Lock: Goddamn it, Morpheus!
Not everyone believes what you believe.
Morpheus: My beliefs do not require them to.

Hamann: What about you, captain? What would you advise?
Morpheus: The truth.
No one will panic because there is nothing to fear.
That army won't reach the gates of Zion.
Hamann: What makes you so sure?
Morpheus: Consider what we have seen, councillor.
Consider that in the past 6 months we have freed more minds than in 6 years.
This attack is an act of desperation.
I believe very soon the prophecy will be fulfilled and this war will end.
Hamann: I hope you're right, captain.
Morpheus: I do not believe it to be a matter of hope, councillor.
It is simply a matter of time.

It is true what many of you have heard.
The machines have gathered an army, and as I speak that army is drawing nearer to our home.
Believe me when I say we have a difficult time ahead of us.
But if we are to be prepared for it, we must first shed our fear of it.
I stand here before you now truthfully unafraid.
Why?
Because I believe something you do not?
No!
I stand here without fear because I remember.
I remember that I am here not because of the path that lies before me,
but because of the path that lies behind me.
I remember that for 100 years we have fought these machines.
I remember that for 100 years they have sent their armies to destroy us.
And after a century of war, I remember that which matters most, we are still here!
Tonight, let us send a message to that army.
Tonight, let us shake this cave.
Tonight, let us tremble these halls of earth, steel and stone.
Let us be heard from red core to black sky.
Tonight, let us make them remember, this is Zion and we are not afraid!
~Morpheus

Neo: I can't lose you.
Trinity: You're not gonna lose me.

Hamann: I like it down here.
I like to be reminded this city survives because of these machines.
These machines are keeping us alive while other machines are coming to kill us.
Interesting, isn't it?
The power to give life and the power to end it.
Neo: We have the same power.
Hamann: Yeah, I suppose we do, but...
sometimes I think about those people still plugged into The Matrix.
And when I look at these machines,
I can't help thinking that, in a way, we are plugged into them.
Neo: But we control these machines, they don't control us.
Hamann: Of course not. How could they?
The idea is pure non-sense, but it does make one wonder just... what is control?
Neo: If we wanted, we could shut these machines down.
Hamann: Of course, that's it. You hit it.
That's control, isn't it?
If we wanted, we could smash them to bits.
Although if we did, we'd have to consider what would happen to our lights, our heat, our air.
Neo: So we need machines and they need us.
Is that your point, councillor?
Hamann: No, no point.
Old men like me don't bother with making points. There's no point.
Neo: Is that why there are no young men on The Council?
Hamann: Good point.
Neo: Why don't you tell me what's on your mind, councillor?
Hamann: There is so much in this world that I do not understand.
See that machine?
It has something to do with recycling our water supply.
I have absolutely no idea how it works.
But I do understand the reason for it to work.
I have absolutely no idea how you are able to do some of the things you do.
But I believe there's a reason for that as well.
I only hope we understand that reason before it's too late.

Neo: These are back doors, aren't they?
Programmer access.
[Seraph nods] How do they work?
Seraph: A code is hidden in tumblers.
One position opens a lock and another position opens one of these doors.
Neo: Are you a programmer?
[Seraph shakes his head] Then what are you?
Seraph: I protect that which matters most.

Neo: You're not human, are you?
Oracle: It's tough to get more obvious than that.
Neo: If I had to guess, I'd say you're a program from the machine world.
[to Seraph] So is he.
Oracle: So far, so good.
Neo: But if that's true, that could mean you're part of this system, another kind of control.
I suppose the most obvious question is, how can I trust you?
Oracle: Bingo!
It is a pickle, no doubt about it.
Bad news is, there's no way you can really know if I'm here to help you or not.
So it's really up to you.
Just have to make up your own damn mind
to either accept what I'm going to tell you or reject it.

Neo: If you already know, how can I make a choice?
Oracle: You didn't come here to make the choice, you've already made it.
You're here to try to understand why you made it.

Oracle: The ones doing their job, doing what they were meant to do, are invisible.
You'd never even know they were here.
But the other ones, well, you hear about them all the time.
Neo: I've never heard of them.
Oracle: Of course you have.
Every time you've heard someone say they saw ghost or an angel...
every story you've ever heard about vampires, werewolves or aliens,
is the system assimilating some program that's doing something they're not supposed to be doing.
Neo: Programs hacking programs.
Why?
Oracle: They have their reasons,
but usually a program  chooses exile when it faces deletion.
Neo: Why would a program be deleted?
Oracle: Maybe it breaks down.
Maybe a better program is created to replace it.
Happens all the time.
And when it does, a program can either choose to hide here or return to the source.
Neo: The machine mainframe.
Oracle: Where you must go.
Where the path of The One ends.

Oracle: We can never see past the choices we don't understand.
Neo: Are you saying I have to choose whether Trinity lives or dies?
Oracle: No, you've already made the choice.
Now you have to understand it.
Neo: No. I can't do that. I won't.
Oracle: You have to.
Neo: Why?
Oracle: Because you're The One.
Neo: What if I can't?
What happens if I fail?
Oracle: Then Zion will fall.

Oracle: You can save Zion if you reach the source, but to do that you need The Keymaker.
Neo: The Keymaker?
Oracle: He disappeared.
We didn't know what happened to him until now.
He's being held prisoner by a very dangerous program, one of the oldest of us.
He is called The Merovingian.
And he won't let him go willingly.
Neo: What does he want?
Oracle: What do all men with power wnat?
More power.

As you well know, appearances can be deceiving
which brings me back to the reason why we're here.
We're not here because we're free.
We're here because we are not free.
There's no escaping reason, no denying purpose.
Because as we both know, without purpose we would not exist.
It is purpose that created us.
Purpose that connects us.
Purpose that pulls us, that guides us, that drives us.
It is purpose that defines us, purpose that binds us.
We are here because of you, Mr. Anderson.
We're here to take from you what you tried to take from us, purpose.
~Agent Smith

 Who has time?
But then, if we do not ever take time, how can we ever have time?
~Merovingian

Merovingian: You are here because you were sent here.
You were told to come here, and then you obeyed.
It is, of course, the way of all things.
There is only one constant one universal. It is the only real truth, causality.
Action, reaction.
Cause and effect.
Morpheus: Everything begins with choice.
Merovingian: No, wrong.
Choice is an illusion created between those with power and those without.

Causality.
There is no escape from it.
We are forever slaves to it.
~Merovingian

Merovingian: My, God, Persephone, how could you do this? You betray me!
Persephone: Cause and effect, my love.
Merovingian: Cause? There is no cause for this. What cause?
Persephone: What cause? How about the lipstick you're still wearing?
Merovingian: Lipstick?
What craziness are you talking about, woman? There is no lipstick! [wipe his lip]
Persephone: She wasn't kissing your face, my love.

Mark my words, boy, and mark them well.
I have survived your predecessors, and I will survive you.
~Merovingian

Agent: You are no longer necessary.
Keymaker: We do only what we're meant to do.
Agent: Then you are meant for one more thing, deletion.

Keymaker: There is a building.
Inside this building, there is a level where no elevator can go and no stair can reach.
This level is filled with doors.
These doors lead to many places, hidden places.
But one door is special. One door leads to the source.
This building is protected by a very secure system.
Every alarm triggers the bomb.
But like all systems, it has a weakness.
The system is based on the rules of a building.
One system built on another.
Morpheus: Electricity.
Keymaker: If one fails, so must the other.
Niobe: No electricity, no alarms.
Cain: You'd have to take out a city block to kill the power.
Keymaker: Not one, 27.
Soren: There is a power station that must be destroyed.
Niobe: There must be some kind of fail-safe.
Keymaker: Yes, there is an emergency system.
The core network of the grid must be accessed.
The emergency system must be deactivated.
Soren: What do you need us for?
Neo could take them out easier than we could.
Keymaker: There's no time.
Niobe: Why?
Keymaker: Once the door is unprotected, the connection will be severed.
But another connection must first be made.
Soren: How long will that take?
Keymaker: Exactly 314 seconds.
Soren: Just over 5 minutes.
Keymaker: That is the length and breadth of the window.
Only The One can open the door and only during that window can the door be opened.
Niobe: How do you know all this?
Keymaker: I know because I must know.
It is my purpose.
It's the reason I'm here, the same reason we're all here.

All must be done as one.
If one fails, all fail.
~The Keymaker

Niobe: I can't help thinking, what if you're wrong?
What if all this, the prophecy, everything, is bullshit?
Morpheus: Then tomorrow we may all be dead.
But how would that be different from any other day?

Consider the alternative.
What if I am right? What if the prophecy is true?
What if tomorrow the war could be over?
Isn't that worth fighting for?
Isn't that worth dying for?
~Morpheus

Architect: Hello, Neo.
Neo: Who are you?
Architect: I am the Architect.
I created The Matrix.
I've been waiting for you.

Architect: Interesting. That was quicker than the others.
Neo in TV: Others? How many? What others?
Architect: The Matrix is older than you know.
I count from the emergence of one integral anomaly to the emergence of the next.
In which case, this is the sixth version.
Neo in TV: 5 before me? He's lying. Bullshit!
There are only 2 possible explanations.
Either no one told me or no one knows.
Architect: Precisely.

Neo: This is about Zion.
Architect: You are here because Zion is about to be destroyed.
Its every living inhabitant terminated, its entire existence eradicated.
Neo: Bullshit!
Architect: Denial is the most predictable of all human responses.
But rest assured, this will be the sixth time we have destroyed it
and we have become exceedingly efficient at it.

Architect: The function of The One is now to return to the source,
allowing a dissemination of the code you carry reinserting the prime program.
After which you will be required to selct from The Matrix 23 individuals,
16 female, 7 male, to rebuild Zion.
Failure to comply with this process will result in a cataclysmic system crash,
killing everyone connected to The Matrix
which, coupled with the extermination of Zion will result in the extinction of the entire human race.
Neo: You won't let it happen. You can't.
You need human beings to survive.
Architect: There are levels of survival we are prepared to accept.
The relevant issue is whether or not you are ready to accept the responsibility for the death of every human being in this world.

Architect, smirking as Neo choose the door that leads him back to Trinity: Hope.
It is the quintessential human delusion,
simultaneously the source of your greatest strength and your greatest weakness.
Neo: If I were you, I would hope that we don't meet again.
Architect: We won't.

Morpheus: I don't understand it.
Everything was done as it was supposed to be done.
Once The One reaches the source, the war should be over.
Neo: In 24 hours it will be.
Morpheus: What?
Neo: If we don't do something in 24 hours, Zion will be destroyed.
Link: What?
Trinity: How do you know that?
Neo: I was told it would happen.
Morpheus: By whom?
Neo: It doesn't matter. I believed him.
Morpheus: That's impossible. The prophecy tells us...
Neo: It was a lie, Morpheus. The prophecy was a lie.
The One was never meant to end anything.
It was all another system of control.
Morpheus: I don't believe that.
Neo: But you said it yourself, how can the prophecy be true if the war isn't over?
I'm sorry.
I know it isn't easy to hear, but I swear to you it's the truth.
